C. Characters
1. Who is/ are the main character(s) in the story? What does the main charater look like?
- Ivan Vassilievich , the story did not tell much about him
- Varenka
2. Describe the main charater's situation. Where does he/she live? Does he/she live alone or with others? What does the main character do for a living, or is he/she dependent on others for support?
- Ivan Vassilievich is a German man. He doesn't really talk about himself, but more likely about his love life when he fell in love with the young girl at the ball.
3. What are some of the chief characteristics (persosnaltiy traits) of the character? How are these characteristics revealed in the story? How does the main character interact with other characters? Note the degree of complexity of his/her behavior, thought, and feelings; their appearances, their habits, mannerisms, speech, attitudes, and values. What is the main character's attitude towards his/her life? Is he/she happy or sad, content or discontented? Why?
A. At first it was lust, then it changed to love then later the next day it changes to anger then loneliness. The other character that are important to him is the love of his life and her father.
B.Varenka - She is very beautiful.
-When she turned 18 she was tall, graceful, majestic.
C.Colonel
- Very handsome
-He have a white mustaches.
-He have a great smile like his daugter.
-He had a great handsome body.
4. What sort of conflict is the character facing? How is this conflict revealed? Is it resolved? If so, how?
- The conflict is when he fell in love with Varenka. Then after that the next morning when he goes to meet Varenka he saw the colonel beating up a man and doing some terrible thing.
5. Is any character a developing character? If so, is his change a large or a small one? Is it a plausible cange for him? Is he sufficiently motivated? Is the change given sufficient time?
- He doesn't change any outter appearance. But inside, he changes how he feel about other people, and judge more differently.

After the ball setting
1. Place:the geographical location of the story- a country or a city, a large city or a small village, indoors or outdoors, or both.
- The story did not tell about the place in the book, but this story happened in Germany. The story started in a room, where Ivan was interviewed about his love life. Ivan's story happened in the ball room.
2. Time: the period in history, the season of the year, the day of the month, and/or the hour of the day in which the events of the story occur.
- The story happened about 1840s, it was in winter season, in december.
3. Social environment: the location of characters and events in a particular society and/or a particular social class (lover, middle, or upper class)
- They were considred a hi class people. Only the hi class people got to attend to the balls. Ivan's brother was very successful in past year and Veronica was a daughter of the Colonel.

After The Ball Plot question
1. What is the story about? What are the main events in the story,and how are they related to each other?
-This story is about a man that falling in love with a woman that he met at the ball. The woman is pretty, smart, and nice. The main events of the story is at the ball. This man named Ivan Vassilievich fell in love with a woman named Varenka.
2. Are the main events of the story arranged chronologically, or are they arranged in another way?
-Yes, this story arranged chronologically.
3. How is the story narrated? Are flashbacks, summaries, stories within the story used?
-The story is told by Ivan Vassilievich (main character)
4. Is the plot fast-paced or slow-paced?
-I think its not fast and not slow because they take things fast but the events happen slowly.
5. How do the thoughts, behaviors,and actions of characters move the plot forward?
-Ivan Vassilievich wants to marry Varenka right after they met and fell in love at the ball, but Varenka had fiance.
6. What are the conflicts in the plot? Are they physical,intellectual,moral or emotional? Are they resolved? How are they resolved? Is the main conflict between good and evil sharply differentiated,or is it more subtle and complex?
-The conflict in the plot- Varenka did not love Ivan
- Varenka will be marry soon
- Varenka father is a colonel and he like to torture people that did not follow him.

-The climax is when he finds out about Varenka's father.

- Yes, first Ivan fell in love with Varenka but then he found out that she already have a fiance. Then Ivan found out about Varenka's father, so this make him to make a second thought

-Is about a man who tell his story to the people who ask him. He was quite famous during his time. So many girls wanted him. So it make sense that everyone want to know his story about his love life time.
